April 20th, 2012 - Horn and Clean-up

I added the horn to the boat today. It isn't a GT-150 horn, but it is a Glastron horn and it looks cool, so I thought I would put it on my boat. I also cleaned up the interior.

April 19th, 2012 - Electronics

I had the motor running again today and it started and ran very well. The reason I started it up? I installed the tach and a kill switch and needed to make sure everything worked. The tach was easy. I read up on the forums and schematics and found that I can hook it up to the connector at the front of the control box. The Teleflex tach takes uses the 6P setting on the Mercury 90HP motor. The rest is pretty straight forward. The kill switch was a different story. I had checked on the web and was expecting to kill the motor by grounding the black/yellow or salmon colored wire and that would be that. WRONG. I grounded the salmon wire and nothing. I used a test light and grounder everything and still nothing. I even took the control box apart and went right to the ignition switch. Nothing. So back to the web I went. After checking on numerous posts on the www.iboats.com forums, I found out that I needed to cut the white wire to kill the motor. I put the kill switch inline, started it up and pulled the cord. It worked!! Yay! Later in the evening, I wired the stereo with amp, hooked up the subwoofer and installed the gauges in the dash. I also hooked up the gauge lights.
Busy day!

April 18th, 2012 - Carpet!!!

I installed the carpet today!! First, I glued the carpet around the back walls then glued down the back half. Next, I glued the carpet to the ski locker and finished by gluing down the front half. When the glue dries, I'll touch it up and trim the excess. I may add some to a few areas also.

April 13th, 2012 - Mercury 90 Water Pump, Speedo Pitot

Time to tackle the water pump on the Merc. I took off the lower unit and cleaned up some of the silt, then took the water pump apart. I see why it didn't pump any water!. After putting it together it was time to start the motor and check it out. It pumped water, ran very well and went through forward and reverse. Time to give it a try in the water! I also installed the speedometer pick-up and fastened down the tubing.

April 12th, 2012 - Dash, Stern, Radio and Switches

Moving right along, I build up a couple of bulkheads at the stern to hide the trim pump and battery, as well as allowing me a place to mount the speakers that are coming. I also mounted the radio cover and the radio, a JVC Bluetooth and Ipod ready unit(no CD), added a first, trial, round of the woodgrain dash (made from contact paper from Wal-Mart), test fit the gauges and installed the switches for the lights, bilge pump and radio.

April 11th, 2012 - Bow Light, Trim Pieces and Power Trim

Today I installed the new bow light. I had to make a new gasket out of a foam gasket from a square home electrical power box. I also cleaned all of the aluminum trim pieces that were left to install. They shined up very nice. The horn was next. This is a Glastron horn, though not standard on the GT-150. I need a horn and it looks cool. I cleaned it and took it apart to be painted. I still need to find the right place to mount it. Finally, I mounted the trim hydraulic pump to a back wall and made sure it all worked.

April 9th, 2012 - Misc., Lights and Power Trim

It was a day of doing some of the small stuff. I attached the rear rope cleats and installed the front and read nav lights. I also put the new GT sticker on the GT Badge up front. Finally, I installed the hydraulic hoses for the power trim and tilt to the pump. I tried to attach the pump to the floor but I found out that there wasn't enough space for that. I guess I will have to look for another solution. Finally, I added some wire loom to the hoses in the splash well to make them look better.

April 6th, 2012 - Paint, Windshield, Steering and Motor

Man, did I get a lot done today! I painted the blue last night and unveiled the new paint job today. It looks AWESOME! Next, I got brought out the wind screen, cleaned it up, put down the foam padding and tightened it down. Then it was time to attack the steering. I installed the bracket to the dash and added the wheel. I routed the cable out back in preparation for the motor. I siliconed the drain plug and screwed that in place. Then came the motor. I lifted it on the transom and cranked it down. Wow, does it look great on there. After getting the steering attached to the motor, I had to drill a hole in the splash well for the hydraulic lift hoses. I then applied silicone and tightened the box down. Phew!!!
